Washington Park has been the pride of Albany since the 1870s and was recently named one of the country's 100 Most Important Parks by the American Association of Architects.
Empire State Plaza was completed in 1978 and features some of Albany’s amazing art and architecture in the 98-acre complex along with the New York State Museum, The Capitol, Corning Tower, The Egg, and majestic fountains in a decorative pool.
This is where many of the Albany's big community events take place, such as the Capitol Concert Series featuring free live music performances, along with major festivals, the New York State Food Festival in August, Dad Fest on Father's Day, and many more events throughout the year.
One of Albany's most historical hotspots is the Schuyler Mansion, which was once home to United States Senator and Revolutionary War general Philip J. Schuyler. Schuyler's daughter, Elizabeth, married Alexander Hamilton in this home. For more fun history, Historic Cherry Hill exhibits over 70,000 items in from the families who lived in the home between 1787 and 1963.
When it comes to fine dining in Albany, Jack's Oyster House is the perfect choice. Established in 1913, Jack’s is one of the oldest family-owned restaurants in the nation. Signature oysters are their specialty, but the steak, lobster, crab cakes or clams are also outstanding.
